Advocacy at YARI
What is Advocacy?
Advocacy is support given to a specific cause. At YARI, we advocate for a variety of animal-related causes:
-
Adopting and not shopping
-
Providing support for rescues and shelters
-
Pet owner education
At YARI events, see the impacts of animal rescue
first-hand.
At our events, students interact with adoptable rescue animals, many of whom have been saved from euthanasia lists at overcrowded shelters. Interacting with these animals encourages teenagers to value the work of animal rescues, encouraging them to advocate for practices like spay and neuter and adopting not shopping.
Why these issues?
Animal shelters are severely over capacity, while people continue to buy from breeders. This overcrowding issue pushes shelters to euthanize animals for space. We can save the lives of countless animals by advocating for adopting from rescues and shelters, enacting spay and neuter restrictions, and providing support to pet-owners in need.
